mvmhm Posted May 7, 2017 Share #1 Posted May 7, 2017 What a week of donations! Monday started with a Japanese knee mortar...Thursday brought this group. I'm only showing a portion of it, but this guy kept nearly everything he was issued. He enlisted in the Navy sometime around 1948/1950, earned a lsot at the Navy Academy and graduated there in 1956. He went on to serve out a 20 year career. Because there's so much stuff here, I'll likely be giving some pieces away here on the forum when I get some free time to sort it out. The family still has some other items to go through (medals, insignia, ship's plaques and photos), so there should be more coming. First is some miscellaneous stuff....there's three pairs of blue swim trunks and two pairs of dungarees (sadly, no chambray shirts)...there's 8 sets of chokers, which I assume were from his Academy days...the makers label inside them is shown too. mvmhm Posted May 7, 2017 Author Share #4 Posted May 7, 2017 There's one blue jumper that has the drop collar removed and replaced or modified with a normal style collar...also another white jumper with his name across the front, and a couple sets of Academy shirts and pants. mvmhm Posted May 7, 2017 Author Share #5 Posted May 7, 2017 ...a number of ball caps...as you can see he was proud of being an Academy grad! The USS John Warner cap is signed under the bill by the sub's first C.O.
mvmhm Posted May 7, 2017 Author Share #6 Posted May 7, 2017 ...some misc enlisted insignia and one of his ship's UICs...there are two silken black bands in cellophane, which I assume are mourning armbands (?).
mvmhm Posted May 7, 2017 Author Share #7 Posted May 7, 2017 This interesting...pieces cut from a jumper...the material is actually a Coast Guard blue shade.
mvmhm Posted May 7, 2017 Author Share #8 Posted May 7, 2017 This crate was used to ship his household goods when he was a new Ensign. It held 261 pounds at the time...everything in this group fills it to the top with two small boxes left over....
mvmhm Posted May 7, 2017 Author Share #9 Posted May 7, 2017 Two of his visors..there's also another 13 removable covers for these..I believe the aluminum do-dad is a hat form (?)

mvmhm Posted May 7, 2017 Author Share #15 Posted May 7, 2017 I love to find intact groups like this...but I sure hate it when I have to schlepp it all upstairs...this group I went to the family's house to get...I had to take everything out of the trunk, then move the trunk with a hand cart...it's VERY well made! Not everything is pictured...there's a decent size stack of khaki shirts and pants too...as well as overseas caps, hat covers, etc... P-40Warhawk Posted May 8, 2017 Share #16 Posted May 8, 2017 Just seeing the pocket on the dungarees, they look like good WW2 era ones (no button on the left rear pocket). That is pretty cool he started off enlisted.
uniformcollector Posted May 8, 2017 Share #17 Posted May 8, 2017 That's a great group! The metal thing is used to clean the hats. You wrap the cover around it.
