BEAST Posted April 26, 2017 Share #1 Posted April 26, 2017 I've searched the forum and on-line and can't find a clear answer. During WWII, when did the use of the arrowheads begin? How long after the landings in Africa or Normandy did you see troops put the arrowhead on their ribbon bar or wings? Does anyone have pre-VE Day photos of troops wearing the arrowhead? Thanks! Jumpin Jack Posted April 26, 2017 Share #2 Posted April 26, 2017 The bronze service arrowhead was authorized December 23, 1944, for all personnel who had participated in a combat parachute jump. combat glider landing, or initial assault landing on a hostile shore. I would guess that it took at least another 60 days before it it made its way through channels for issue. Hope this helps. Jack

Rakkasan187 Posted April 27, 2017 Share #4 Posted April 27, 2017 Dave, To add to what Jack stated, here is the article that is on the back inside cover of the December 1944 National Geographic Magazine that was put out identifying the Insignia and Decorations of the U.S. Armed Services. My apologies about the picture quality, but you will see the information reference the Bronze arrowhead device on page 2.
