This is a "Chapeau", but I can't tell which model. It was a full dress hat worn by Army or Navy officers during the early to mid 19th century. I think the Navy used this type hat well into the 20th century. The eagle badge on it is from an 1880's Army full dress helmet.

The eagle badge on it is from an 1880's Army full dress helmet.

It's not a plate used by the US Army (different from the M1872 and M1880 plates). I believe Bannerman's produced this style for any organization that needed some type of military-looking hat badge (e.g., band, militia unit, etc).

The Chapeau body itself could be the 1872 US Army Staff Officer Chapeau, but at this point, it's missing so much stuff, it has little or no value.

This is a rigid chapeau used by a fraternal organization with a front plate that looks similar to a m1872 front plate, but was actually used for high school bands.
