VMI88 Posted April 25, 2017 Share #1 Posted April 25, 2017 I found this set of naval aviators wings the other day and I was wondering if the forum could help me date them. They're standard sized wings in the older pattern without clusters. They're highly detailed but made of a relatively thin stamped metal. The color is more bronze than gold, though that may just be patina. The reverse is pinback with a drop-in roller catch. There is also what may be the remains of a silver wash. No markings. So what are they - early aviator wings? Sweetheart jewelry? Cheap wartime wings? Something else? Any help would be appreciated.
B-17Guy Posted April 25, 2017 Share #2 Posted April 25, 2017 This is a known between the wars Aviator wing pattern. There are a number of threads about these in the forum. Not sweetheart, just lower quality. John

VMI88 Posted April 27, 2017 Author Share #4 Posted April 27, 2017 The first wings pictured in this thread are very similar to mine, though not an exact match: http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/225228-a-naval-aviator-wing/
