BILL THE PATCH Posted April 21, 2017 Author Share #11 Posted April 21, 2017 That's where I'm confused, it actually on a 79th div Ike. 79th on the left sleeve, 3rd army on the right. Could the soldier have kept these on his Ike ? The 79th is his combat patch. If he has 3rd army patch on his right, that should be the 102nd div right? patches Posted April 21, 2017 Share #12 Posted April 21, 2017 This comes up as the 327th Medical Battalion's DI, it looks like one of those old fashion designs right? So it may have been one adopted in the 20s-30s when this unit was the 327th Medical Regiment, 102nd Division OR.

However, the DI in question appears to be painted and TM. It matches the design in Capistrano's book. Am not going to postulate or speculate on why this DI is on the Ike. Capistrano and Stanton both indicate the battalion was assigned to the 102nd ID during and immediately post WW II. Good enough for me.

Yeah, for instance as you mentioned The one on the IKE appears to be Theater Made, it also has the qualities in appearance to be one of those unauthorized/locally approved ones, but generally these types were for units that had no officially approved DI of their own. So for me, it's a curious piece. Hey Billy, what else is on this IKE, if it's got it's DIs still on it, does it have it's collar discs? if so are they Medical Corps?
