Sand Flea Posted April 21, 2017 Share #4 Posted April 21, 2017 Nice group, what is the gold usnr badges with the eagle represent? I recently acquired one and have no idea who would have worn them. Thanks, Alex
MastersMate Posted April 22, 2017 Share #5 Posted April 22, 2017 The design has been changed in the last few years. From a WW2 pamphlet describing the Merchant Marine cadet program.. The design is supposed to be inspired by the stern board of USF Constitution ( Old Ironsides)
senhoragua Posted June 6, 2017 Share #6 Posted June 6, 2017 do you know what his history was after the war? i can see that he was a sea cadet supporter at some point (those triangular shields look like sea cadet insignia). and he was once an officer on american export lines from the second world war up to when it became amercan export isbrandthsen lines in 1964. in terms of his ribbons, i see that on the top row, left is an air force reserve ribbon. and on last row, right is a ribbon i've never seen. neat collection. there are definitely a lot of sea stories in there. senhoragua Posted June 7, 2017 Share #9 Posted June 7, 2017 the flags on the badges are: right: american export lines. the embroidery looks like mid-forties. it may be from s. appel. left: amercan export m-isbrandthsen lines. the house flag is circa 1964 through 1977. gemsco and n.s. meyer are the usual manufacturers of these.
