usmcaviator Posted April 18, 2017 Share #4 Posted April 18, 2017 Were those the ones from the China Marine lot that was spread out over the past few weeks on E-bay? Mike

usmcaviator Posted April 20, 2017 Share #7 Posted April 20, 2017 Yes across two lots. Awesome. Be sure you keep the provenance, they belonged to George Mowerr, a Shanghai China Marine in 1933-1935 who served on the Yangtze River as a guard. I bid on the majority of stuff but only ended up with a few things (among which was his Yangtze "River Rat" document). In my opinion, and from what I have gleaned from recent trips to the archives, these are private purchase variety. I will have to check my scans, but I don't think the USMC ever awarded a contract to NS Meyer on these. The two different patterns originally came together on purpose. I have original documentation from the QM that shows the USMC sent out multiple proposals and awarded contracts for the 1922 pattern hat device with the 1925 pattern collars. No reason ever given that they did not order the droop wing hat device, even though there was concerted effort to change to the droop wing emblem, they decided against purchasing it and issuing it. themick Posted April 21, 2017 Share #9 Posted April 21, 2017 From the reverse, the collar emblems don't match. One is marked, the other not, among other differences. I'm guessing this would suggest the set wasn't born of the same parents. Steve

Steve Both collar EGAs are marked Metal Meyer and shield; one with both marks on one wing while the other is one mark on each wing.
