Kimo Posted April 14, 2017 Share #1 Posted April 14, 2017 Here is a full sized 3" pinback Technical Observer (TO) wing in my collection. I believe they are WW 2 in vintage and they are a bit worn and tarnished but I think that is good to show it was in regular use for a while on a uniform back then. The back is marked STERLING and it was made all in one piece. It has a nice thickness to it and clearly was die struck. The pin only opens to about 45 degrees from horizontal. These are different from the GEMSCO and AMICO pattern TO wings that have been discussed in recent threads. I would very much appreciate hearing anyone's thoughts on who the maker may have been since it does not have a maker's mark, along with any other thoughts about these that anyone may have. Many thanks!

mghcal Posted April 16, 2017 Share #5 Posted April 16, 2017 I sort of like the looks of this wing. But what I was told was that the originals have the sterling hallmark going vertical in the T. Still I would probably buy your wing as an original.
Kimo Posted April 16, 2017 Author Share #6 Posted April 16, 2017 Thanks. There were different makers of TO wings - each maker seems to have a slightly different design and way of marking them. Some are sterling and some are not.
