dunmore1774 Posted April 12, 2017 Share #1 Posted April 12, 2017 I finally got a chance to pull these out. My wife went to an auction last year or so and called me about some military items she saw, when she sent a pic of the patch, I told her to grab anything military in the auction. She said she missed some earlier items, but grabbed these items which were all in a box that had some other post WW1 things in it. She saw the name "Pogue" written on the items and grabbed anything that had the same name on it. So, here is what I have. The patch obviously looks like WW1 USMC and an aviation roundel. The wings look like USN/Marine type? I cant tell what era they are. The name "POGUE" is on all of the items, and the end of the Sam Browne cross belt has initials that look like "PEP" or "PLP" - or "FLP"- the first two letters are a little worn. The rank insignia looks like a lieutenant. The campaign hat has the ghost of an EGA. I have no idea what type of hat cords they are. So I am wondering who Mr. POGUE was? Do all of the items belong together? The auction was an estate sale and these were mixed in, with very little other militaria, just a few WW2 items (pics, ike jacket, collar discs and buttons). Thanks for any help with the ID.

Owen Posted April 12, 2017 Share #3 Posted April 12, 2017 Very interesting material. However, that is not a WWI USN/USMC wing.

bobgee Posted April 13, 2017 Share #7 Posted April 13, 2017 From "CONTACT" - it further states that Pogue entered MCR as Captain from Southport Ct 29 Oct 1942. Served in numerous aviation-related posts in the U.S. Released from active duty 3 Feb '46. Retired Apr '51 as Major USMCR. Was an Investment & Securities broker, Was still living at publication of book which was in 1967. So......probably his WWII wing. Great group. Too bad it got split up. teufelhunde.ret Posted April 13, 2017 Share #8 Posted April 13, 2017 I nearly had a heart attack upon first seeing the last name.... http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/85209-ww1-marine-aviator-signed-diary-of-1919/?hl=diary
warguy Posted April 13, 2017 Share #9 Posted April 13, 2017 Some nice material. The campaign hat is for an army officer, so may not be his. Kevin
War Party Posted April 13, 2017 Share #10 Posted April 13, 2017 I did a profile on him about nine years ago on TWS. Google "Walter Smith Poague TWS" to see. Great find. Thanks for sharing. After a closer look I believe mine is not the same Marine.
Eric Queen Posted April 13, 2017 Share #11 Posted April 13, 2017 The patch sure looks like a Guy Tacket repro from the 1980's
dunmore1774 Posted April 13, 2017 Author Share #12 Posted April 13, 2017 Thanks to all for the info. As for the patch, that would suck if it were a repro. I'm not familiar with patches from Guy Tacket. Is there some way to tell them apart from good ones? If it is one, he sure did some nice work I can get better pics after work.
