Interesting Civil Defense Firefighting "Hook"

This is a neat item that we just acquired, but I am not sure of the era. I have never seen another. I was trying to find the name of it and my friend said "that is the "hook" of the "hook and ladder"..." ah ha!

The British ARP used pikes like those for pulling down ceiling rafters in burning houses. See the IWM site (http://www.iwm.org.uk/history/8-objects-used-by-air-raid-wardens-during-the-blitz). The Office of Civil Defense learned a lot from the British experience during the Blitz of 1940/41. Equipment like stirrup pumps and training manuals were based on British designs. I think this pike is one such item
