This is my first post so i hope it works out. From what i can find out this knife is a carlsons raider style. I read that there was 1000 of these made for the raiders and they were hand etched with number 1 to 1000. This one has no number that i can see. Any more info and a ballpark value would be appreciated.

thanks, Bill

The collins #18 was used by the Raiders, and also as a pilot survival knife during the war, and by anyone else who could get their hands on one. The Raiders also had a similar knife special made with a cast aluminum grip and bowie blade, that's the one your probably refering to that was made for them, but I've never seen one of those with an etched number. SWAG on the value of yours in that condition without the original scabbard is in the $200-300 range. The aluminum grip Raider bowie runs upwards of $5K when you can find one.

Hi nuke41, you have seriously made a grown man cry and a possible heart attack, two years back I sold most of my raider stuff, including an aluminum handled raider bowie, and my marine landing knife with square tip. I will have to go through my camera cards and see if I can find the pictures to post on a separate posting.

The Collins #18 machete is not that big a deal unless it has the green horn handle and/or provenance to a Marine Raider. I long ago gave up trying to obtain one of those which belonged to a Raider. But I did finally acquire a "minty" Collins & Co. #1001 USMC "machete, intrenching". Those are getting to be difficult and expensive to find in nice condition

Last one I saw at a show about 6 months ago was for $5K, and the dealer had sold it by the next show. Luckily I picked up all my high value knives before prices went crazy. The aluminum handled bowie is one knife I never managed to find, and now I'm not willing to put that much into one.
