M422A1 Posted April 5, 2017 Share #1 Posted April 5, 2017 I have a 1943 dated USMC jerry can. It needs to be repainted and I need to know the correct color. Would it be O.D., forest green; flat or semi-flat (low gloss?) etc.? Also, would the color be different for gas, flamethrower fuel or water? Thanks, Mike
robinb Posted April 5, 2017 Share #2 Posted April 5, 2017 I paint mine forest green. For water you can paint the recessed cross on the can white or just paint WATER across the can anywhere. For fuel the cross can be painted red. I have seen one picture of cans used for flamethrower fuel. The can simply had the words "flamethrower fuel" painted on the front in black. M422A1 Posted April 5, 2017 Author Share #3 Posted April 5, 2017 Thanks! Forest green it is. Do you use the flat or semi-flat?

robinb Posted April 7, 2017 Share #5 Posted April 7, 2017 Here's one of my cans that's still in original paint.
M422A1 Posted April 7, 2017 Author Share #6 Posted April 7, 2017 Here's one of my cans that's still in original paint. Thanks! That is what I needed to see, one still in original paint. Mine is several colors but mostly rust. It is going to get a good soaking in Evaporust this weekend. Mine also has the German-style cap like yours.
