sactroop Posted April 5, 2017 Share #12 Posted April 5, 2017 I'm curious about the presence of the "straight guard" on this knife. It's the first Camillus screw pommel 1219C2 I've seen with one. Just bringing this up for possible discussion.
Gilles Posted April 7, 2017 Author Share #13 Posted April 7, 2017 Hi, Yes the guard is straight. Gilles
mikedon Posted April 7, 2017 Share #14 Posted April 7, 2017 I checked all of mine and they all have a bent guard.

sactroop Posted April 7, 2017 Share #16 Posted April 7, 2017 To be clear, I'm not questioning the authenticity of Gilles knife in this thread. I know that a lot more people here on this forum have seen and owned many more examples of the 1219C2 knives than I've been able too. Thanks to Bill Walter's generosity we've seen that the two Case 1219C2's from that era have straight guards. The only other examples of the early knives I recall seeing with straight guards have been attributed to "UDT" examples, and at least some of those have been questioned as possible post war assembled knives. So far from the silence I'm thinking that the straight guard is at least as unusual as I suspected.
mikedon Posted April 7, 2017 Share #17 Posted April 7, 2017 It certainly looks correct to me. Very nice knife. Possibly a guard in the parts bin at the Camillus factory was not bent and slipped by the inspectors?
sactroop Posted April 7, 2017 Share #18 Posted April 7, 2017 Thats what I'm thinking when it comes to probabilities.
