barryeye Posted April 3, 2017 Share #1 Posted April 3, 2017 I have just been asked and could not answer. What is the object of the two turned down “wings” on the sides of the throat, on a U.S. M8 scabbard? Are they just a carryover from use with the M3? SKIPH Posted April 3, 2017 Share #2 Posted April 3, 2017 I would agree to the bent down ,"wings", being a result of the bent guard on an M3. That's based on an assumption, cannot recall anything in writing. SKIP
Cololab Posted April 3, 2017 Share #3 Posted April 3, 2017 An excellent question; and one for which I have never seen an explanation. After M3s were long out of service and all subsequent bayos (M4, M5, etc) had straight guards, maybe it was just a case of "this works, so why change it". Maybe there is some structural or functional purpose that eludes us thus far.
