KurtA Posted April 2, 2017 Share #1 Posted April 2, 2017 Thought I'd have this checked-out prior to selling. I spent some time searching the internet and this forum, but wanted to make sure it's totally legit. I'd appreciate any informed evaluations. Thanks! cwnorma Posted April 3, 2017 Share #2 Posted April 3, 2017 Kurt, I hate to be the bearer of bad news. That handle is a reproduction. The balance of the parts; scabbard, nut and blade, appear to be original Au Lion. Chris
militariaone Posted April 3, 2017 Share #3 Posted April 3, 2017 Greetings Kurt, I concur (exactly) with Chris' assessment on the posted knife. V/r Lance
KurtA Posted April 3, 2017 Author Share #4 Posted April 3, 2017 Thanks for the info. I kind of suspected it wasn't "right" so wanted to check it out before trying to sell.
VMI88 Posted April 3, 2017 Share #5 Posted April 3, 2017 I suspect the scabbard is still worth a fair amount, especially since the belt hooks are intact.

KurtA Posted April 4, 2017 Author Share #7 Posted April 4, 2017 Thanks for all the responses. The handle seeming "different" from what I saw on-line combined with the nice blade and scabbard confused me.

milcollector Posted June 14, 2017 Share #10 Posted June 14, 2017 Why would someone put a fake handle on a real blade?
militariaone Posted June 14, 2017 Share #11 Posted June 14, 2017 Why would someone put a fake handle on a real blade? The typical reason is to then sell it to someone not quite familiar with what an original pairing looks like. If a seller takes a $15-$30 reproduction handle and attaches a spare/orphan Au Lion's blade to it (or too, a real handle & fake blade) and voila, the seller makes an unethical profit from those misinformed/buck fever buyers who believe they are getting a bargain/deal. Happens all too often with German daggers, but as prices have risen for these US trench knives this particular "parts knives" subterfuge is becoming a more common occurrence.
