USMC M1928 Haversack?

Hello! I bought this M1928 haversack just over a year ago and i'm finally getting around to doing more research as I am updating my USMC display. I was told that the stencil inside the meat can pouch was a USMC stencil and from what I have learned in the last year I feel this is correct. I am 90% certain that the meat can pouch and the actual haversack are original to each other, theyre both the same shade of Khaki or whatever color it is. The haversack is dated 1942.

The haversack, however, isnt stenciled like the meat can pouch.

I added the M43 E tool for display purposes.

So really, my main question is would this pack be appropriate for display on a WWII USMC manniquine or would I be better off replacing it with the M1941 USMC suspender/haversack system?

Also, is this haversack rare or are there plenty of other USMC marked packs? I dont think ive ever seen another one.

Thanks.

I would say its army (or possibly navy used) unless there is confirmation of the name to a Marine on the muster roles.

The Navy had shore and landing parties and used the 28 packs.I nave seen a few in groupings as well as the manuals.

The Depot made older packs from the Marine Corps have square tips typically on the strap ends.

By 1942 I would think they had enough packs of the 41 pattern unless they were substituting some other models as a filler.I have had several USMC BOYT 42 dated packs over the years and there are early depot models of the 41 pack as well.

Not to hijack this thread, but I actually just picked up a meatcan pouch yesterday with a square metal tip on the strap. Would this be an example of a USMC meatcan pouch? It's the lighter khaki color from earlier in the war. (Apologies for the sideways pics, they refuse to stay rotated).

The square tips dont always mean USMC as you will see it on WW1 era equipment too.

At times it can be difficult to tie a piece to exact period or service issue with out the dates or markings, especially with the USMC items. You will see a button used on the closure of the early meat can pouches. The hardware can be a clue.

That's very interesting. First M1928 Pack component I've ever seen with a square tip!
