TheMinistryOfAviation Posted March 26, 2017 Share #1 Posted March 26, 2017 In the middle of purchasing this M42 Jump Uniform set named to a Lt. W Moore. Uniform is in over all good condition save for some corrosion on the snaps and zipper. Also some rips in the pants, but nothing major. There are some unique makings that have been stitched throughout the set, on the inside collar, the belt, the pants. Curious if anyone knows what they mean. I have speculation on the original owner, but don't want to lead the group too much and would prefer to see what others think first. These may have been posted here already by the current/previous owner, and if so I apologize for the duplication. I did a search on the forum for them before posting. Thanks! matterhorn Posted March 26, 2017 Share #9 Posted March 26, 2017 The stitching is Japanese laundry markings.
TheMinistryOfAviation Posted March 26, 2017 Author Share #10 Posted March 26, 2017 Interesting. But how would these end up on this uniform set? And I am unfamiliar with the Japanese Laundry Number system.. could you explain a little into it? -Jeremy
Kadet Posted March 26, 2017 Share #11 Posted March 26, 2017 That is a nice honest set, but there is no way to ascertain that he is the LT Moore who served in the 506th (many of us also follow WAF BTW, so no big mystery where this came from). As mentioned, those laundry marks look Asian/Japanese to me. This would mean that the uniform most likely belonged to a LT Moore of the 11th Airborne Division, which stayed in Japan on occupation duty for many years. There is just no way to really know for sure I'm afraid...
Navybean Posted March 26, 2017 Share #12 Posted March 26, 2017 I have a near identical set, same name tape (different name) that was issued to a 11th a/b 1st Lt. my set stayed state side
TheMinistryOfAviation Posted March 26, 2017 Author Share #13 Posted March 26, 2017 I agree it's a far stretch to think it's the same Moore as Easy Company. Especially since the laundry markings are Japanese. The name in the pants does seem to match Moore's original helmet which is in a museum in France. But the name could have been added to deceive. It certainly raises some questions..
TheMinistryOfAviation Posted March 26, 2017 Author Share #14 Posted March 26, 2017 And to be clear, the purchase price did not reflect Easy Company provenance. It was sold as a good honest jump set, which I believe it to very much be -Jeremy
Kadet Posted March 26, 2017 Share #15 Posted March 26, 2017 I doubt the naming in the uniform has been faked. I can't speak for the helmet. Like I said, it is a nice original set, but without some other form of confirmation, the exact attribution is impossible to ascertain. Were the set definitively ID'd to the 506 Moore, it would have sold in a heartbeat at that price
TheMinistryOfAviation Posted March 26, 2017 Author Share #16 Posted March 26, 2017 but without some other form of confirmation, the exact attribution is impossible to ascertain. Were the set definitively ID'd to the 506 Moore, it would have sold in a heartbeat at that price I think we're on the same page completely. And I assumed there were guys here from the WAF, I wanted to be intentionally vague for those who aren't in an effort to discover more about the piece, and not the story that came with it. Hope that makes sense. -Jeremy
Ronny67 Posted March 27, 2017 Share #17 Posted March 27, 2017 This set is excellent, I would say it is a state-side training uniform based on how nice it is. I doubt it ever went overseas. There are 5 Moore's listed in the 509th PIB roster, all enlisted men. Goes to show how many Moore's were in the airborne.
