David D Posted March 19, 2017 Share #1 Posted March 19, 2017 Here are all my finds from February. To kick it off here is my favorite find of the month. And the whole year so far for that matter. A smaller grouping named to Cpl. W. C. Reekie of the 117th Field Signal bn. 42nd Division. Consisting of a beautifully engraved mess tin. As well as a ledger with memories of his life in the army from 1917 to 1919. The page shown includes, his patch as well as flowers given to him by German children almost 100 years ago! Which i find equally incredible as the engraving work on his mess tin.

David D Posted March 19, 2017 Author Share #3 Posted March 19, 2017 Next up is some beautiful 26th Division helmets. The helmet on the left is a beautiful example of a helmet used by the 104th Infantry Regiment during occupational/parade duty. The helmet on the right is a nice example of a helmet used by a soldier in the 103rd Machine Gun bn. It is unknown weather these markings were used in combat as thgere is no record of the 103rd MGB using painted insignia in the field. But the other 2 MGB in the division did in fact use painted helmets pre-armistice. Enough rambling, here they are.
David D Posted March 19, 2017 Author Share #4 Posted March 19, 2017 Another find for February is this Gillette shaving kit named to an Artillery man in the 32nd Division. I still need to conduct more research on this soldier.
David D Posted March 19, 2017 Author Share #5 Posted March 19, 2017 Another helmet i picked up last month. A helmet re purposed by the AEF. It has a new liner in it as well as a sand finish. As of now it is probably my favorite helmet in my collection.

David D Posted March 19, 2017 Author Share #12 Posted March 19, 2017 Thanks both. Bill, he does look pretty small/young. I'm guessing that the photo was taken at the Mexican border pre WWI. whcih would put him at about 20.
