walika Posted March 18, 2017 Share #1 Posted March 18, 2017 VMF-321 There are two known WWII era squadron insignias, the "Hell's Angels" and Disney Pole cat designs. The former is not known to have ever made it to a patch, and the latter is reported by Millstein to have had an embroidered on twill patch. I have never seen this patch if it existed, but do have a decal which suggests a leather patch may have been produced. In my collection is the parachute travel bag shown in Millstein, p71. Here are some images . . . The Disney Pole cat . . I have never seen a genuine leather patch but assume there may have been one because this gorgeous decal was made. Millstein states an embroidered on twill patch exists, but I have never seen an authentic one. Plenty of reproduction or souvenir patches exist. A throwback to its roots was this nose art from VMFA-311 . . . The unit went inactive in 2004.

walika Posted November 20, 2017 Author Share #3 Posted November 20, 2017 In 1945 a Walt Disney Studios design was adopted while the squadron, with new personnel, was training for carrier and close support operations. The Disney design also reflected the change in aircraft from F4U to F6E. American embroidery on twill. Designed by Walt Disney Studios. Source: Millstein, Jeff. U. S.
