"GREETINGS & SALUTATIONS!" I picked up this week "DENVER ARMY GOODS STORE" catalogue filled with drawings and a few half-tone photographs of both Army & Navy surplus from the Spanish-American War of 1898 as well as the First World War and post-war era between 1918 to 1931. This was the Spring and Summer 1931 catalogue. The store was located at the corner of 15th and Larimer Streets in Denver, Colorado, their one store with no branches. I wonder if they are still in existence? They show a group of happy campers wearing breeches with puttee leg wraps, campaign hats, canoes, and of course tents that were offered by the store, formerly used by the Doughboys in the Army of the United States cantonments. The figures appear to be Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts? Bear in mind that the 1940 U.S. Dollar is like today's sixteen dollars, so imagine what a 1931 U.S. Dollar was worth? Your comments are welcome and we hope that you shall enjoy this 36-page catalogue of authentic military surplus! Sarge Booker of Tujunga, California ([email protected]) If you want, contact me and I can send you larger scans and add you to the list to get free daily scans of equioment, insignia, medals, uniforms, etc.!

thumbsup.gif Sir, I thoroughly enjoyed your post! Oh and my LARGE ORDER has just been mailed. Hopefully your advertised prices will be honored?!? w00t.gif

;) MR.HELL: I'd be very, very surprised if that store was still in business since 1931? Never know, might just be? Probably everything you see would have been long out of stock, without a doubt, maybe bought back by the U.S. Army Quarter Master Corps to use in World War Two and again in the Korean War too? On page 18 they show Navy white and Navy blue broadcloth trousers for 98-cents to US$2.69 as well as a man shown wearing overalls and jumpers for US$1.10 to US$1.85. Lots of the clothes look like what is sold today at a Sears Levi Store. ;) Sarge Booker

thumbsup.gif LEWIS (a/k/a General Apathy): Thank you, glad to hear others like the postings, not easy knowing what to show as there are so many different areas that people focus on in collecting. The fires are being controlled here in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles County in southern California. Could smell the smoke as it added to the infamous L.A. smog which was worse in the 1950s before smog control devices on motor vehicles. Yes, will try to continue to show these catalogues, booklets, books, pamphlets, ink blotters, menus, matchbookcover, etc. thumbsup.gif Sarge Booker (POST SCRIPT: Spanish American War uniforms are offered on page 19 to United Spahish War Veterans which was like the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, no doubt some USWV belonged to one or both organizations as well? The young must have been at least 53-years old and older?)
