Hello

Picked up a huge patch lot.

In the lot there were those patches I did not have in my collection.

Are they all ww2 era ? What is the red USAAF patch ? I never saw it before

Thanks

BILL THE PATCH

Last patch is patch King made for collectors during WW2. The orange patch is a very hard to find AAF HQ's patch, (rare) all the other patches which they are very nice ones ww2 patches. They all look good. The very first patch with flying cat is a ww2 or immediately post war 503rd Abn INF regt. Very hard to find. Great pickups. Congrats.

BILL THE PATCH

I think it's a novelty patch, not military but I'm not 100% sure on that.

ok thanks. I suppose it is the one written "USAFI "?

USAFI is a real, period patch. We pubbed a pic of the top left patch w/ wavy edge being worn in The Trading Post.

Here you go

By the way since it is written USAF is it post 1947 ? Or is it a mistake like on the bailout bottle cover ?

What do you think about this tab ?

Thanks again

Thanks for posting the USAFI patch. As I had suspected, the patch is a repro. Note that the return threads are synthetic, like fish string. Here is an original one for comparison.

The ranger tab is also a repro, the letters should be fatter, but wait for someone else to confirm. They can be tricky

ok thanks. How do you make the difference with a ww2 era oval ?

WWII ABN ovals usually have a thinner border and are more of a "football" shape. In the 1950-60s they had the thicker border like yours and a shape more like a racetrack.
