TheMinistryOfAviation Posted March 17, 2017 Share #1 Posted March 17, 2017 Hey all, This cartridge belt is advertised as a BOYT '42 and it seems pretty clean.. I'm wondering if it's "too" clean.. Just getting into U.S. Collecting, so forgive my ignorance on the most basic of equipment.. Thanks, Jeremy

Texas36th Posted March 17, 2017 Share #7 Posted March 17, 2017 It is a nice original example of a BOYT Cartridge belt.
McDermut99 Posted March 17, 2017 Share #8 Posted March 17, 2017 Looks right as rain to me. The belt was issued at some point, you can tell from the laundry stamp on the pouch flap. It was used but not very much. A couple of the metal eyelets have some surface corrosion, which is usually a good indicator of age. Overall its a very nice and sought after example. TheMinistryOfAviation Posted March 17, 2017 Author Share #9 Posted March 17, 2017 Thanks guys. I thought as much, but being a newbie to the Allied side of things I know it's ALWAYS better to ask when you're not 100% -Jeremy
'Flage Guy Posted March 18, 2017 Share #10 Posted March 18, 2017 That's the early Boyt production stamp, on a very clean Belt...better grab it!!
doyler Posted March 18, 2017 Share #11 Posted March 18, 2017 Yes early belt and I have owned unused examples that are much nicer.Dont over think condition. Yours shows vets service number. Its been issued I have seen piles of 1942 dated Boyt BAR belts that were never used.
'Flage Guy Posted March 18, 2017 Share #12 Posted March 18, 2017 The earlier Boyt gear is harder to come by than their later productions. It's a wonder that any have survived in good or unused condition. But as Ron said, they seem fairly available. Here is a short chronology of the Boyt Harness Company Wartime stamps, with a '41 at the bottom, early '42 in the middle and the late '42 block lettered stamp at top, which they stayed with until the War's end. TheMinistryOfAviation Posted March 18, 2017 Author Share #15 Posted March 18, 2017 No shame in my eyes having the laundry number. I prefer issued stuff over non-issued mint. This one seems to have the best of both worlds. -Jeremy
doyler Posted March 18, 2017 Share #16 Posted March 18, 2017 Agree Just wanted to point out it was a service number and common to see things marked this way. So much stuff was also marked or written on for Boy Scout use. Really amazing when you think of how after 70-100 years you can still find original old stock thats nearly new or unused.A testament to the mass of items produced. doyler Posted March 18, 2017 Share #17 Posted March 18, 2017 'Flage Think I have said it before how nice that '41 BoyT is and talk about a scarce dated belt....
'Flage Guy Posted March 19, 2017 Share #18 Posted March 19, 2017 Thanks, man- I didn't recall ever posting that Belt up here before, but evidently I did. You said it- those "BoyT -41-" (or any '41s for that matter) Ammo Belts are super scarce. That was the only reason I bid on that one, as I need another Cartridge Belt like I need rubber ears. They're just so dang hard to find, especially in nice shape. Plus, I have a sickness for early "BoyT" goodies anyway...
TheMinistryOfAviation Posted March 20, 2017 Author Share #19 Posted March 20, 2017 Those '41 pouches are top of the TOP! -Jeremy
