beerdragon54 Posted March 16, 2017 Share #1 Posted March 16, 2017 Just got this and I am pretty darn happy. No scabbard and not mint but still smiling. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
tarheeltim Posted March 16, 2017 Share #2 Posted March 16, 2017 Congratulations - that's a rare piece!
siclfde Posted March 16, 2017 Share #3 Posted March 16, 2017 Nice piece!!. . I don't much like the mint - more like somebody stuck it in their sock drawer for the war, with no chance of it having been carried. Should be able to find a comparable M6, but wont be cheap. SKIPH Posted March 16, 2017 Share #4 Posted March 16, 2017 It's a blade-dated RCC,and they are few and far between. I've said this in the past, you see more V42s for sale, than RCC blade-dated M3s. SKIP.
beerdragon54 Posted March 16, 2017 Author Share #5 Posted March 16, 2017 I guess I didn't know they were all that rare. Any idea in value?
SKIPH Posted March 17, 2017 Share #6 Posted March 17, 2017 Hard to determine a price on an RCC that has been sharpened, little finish on the blade, and what appears to be pitting, and no M6 scabbard. But, due to lack of availability, you will make more with that RCC, than you would for another maker in that condition. More than likely it will be the only one you will ever encounter. Hang on to it.
beerdragon54 Posted March 17, 2017 Author Share #7 Posted March 17, 2017 It does have some light pitting and some sharpening, etc. I know where a comparable M6 scabbard is. Thanks a lot.
SKIPH Posted March 17, 2017 Share #8 Posted March 17, 2017 Seriously, hang on to it.If you sell it you will regret it later. It will go up in price, and the demand will be there. A decent M6 scabbard is gravy. SKIP

beerdragon54 Posted March 17, 2017 Author Share #10 Posted March 17, 2017 Missing the staples but it kinda matches the condition. $150 from a friend Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
sundance Posted March 17, 2017 Share #11 Posted March 17, 2017 Well that's a nice match. I'd certainly hold on to the pair. Well used, but as with a lot of us, that's the way we like them.
SKIPH Posted March 17, 2017 Share #12 Posted March 17, 2017 M6 is a good match. Hang on to it. You now have a rare addition to your collection. Thanks for showing. SKIP
Blacksmith Posted March 17, 2017 Share #13 Posted March 17, 2017 Wouldn't change a thing about the pair. Awesome, and congrats! Funny that somebody 'struck out' the "USM6" designation on the sheath.
sactroop Posted March 17, 2017 Share #14 Posted March 17, 2017 Definitely looks like a good match. Listen to Skip, if you do ever get the chance to upgrade I don't think you'll have to wait long to pass that pair on. Does the cross canons stamp show up well on the knife? beerdragon54 Posted March 17, 2017 Author Share #15 Posted March 17, 2017 No cross cannons stamp is legible. I found that odd. Wore off? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
SKIPH Posted March 17, 2017 Share #16 Posted March 17, 2017 No ordinance stamp on top of curved guard. Was it ground off? SKIP
beerdragon54 Posted March 17, 2017 Author Share #17 Posted March 17, 2017 No sure sign it was ground off? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Gardner11 Posted March 17, 2017 Share #18 Posted March 17, 2017 You have a very nice knife I would buy the sheath and be content with a great piece of history . In the haste to supply our troops with weaponry the cannons could have been left off .
cgutierrez Posted March 19, 2017 Share #19 Posted March 19, 2017 No ordinance stamp on top of curved guard. Was it ground off? SKIP SkIPH, There has been previous discussions about what makes an RCC dated M3 authentic or a repo. DOYLER once pointed out that an Ebay 1943 dated RCC M3's guard looked a bit thinner than acknowledged genuine specimens. The guard on this one looks, to me, to be in that category plus the leather handle appears to be slimmer than it should be and does not have the added leather washer between the guard and the rest of the leather handle. This particular one also does not have the ordinance stamp on the guard either. I am not saying for a moment that his might be a reproduction. The circumstances of the buy and the condition of the original scabbard points to an all original piece; but, it does raise the question that there may be two unique variations of an RCC bladed M3, one with the thicker handle and guard with a ordinance stamped guard and the other with a thinner handle and guard with no ordinance stamped guard. Do you see this as a maybe. TIA CG
SKIPH Posted March 19, 2017 Share #20 Posted March 19, 2017 My RCC blade dated has a handle similar to the one in the thread. Tried to post picture but it was too big. I do not doubt the one in the thread is legit, have never heard of any RCC repros. Someone did straighten the guard, and the stamp could have damaged the cartouche, then it was taken off. Also I believe due to the relatively small amount produced that there were no post war M3s made from left over parts by RCC. All we can do is speculate.
