Dog tags Privacy Question (SS/N)

Hello friends !

I have a pair of dog tags that have a man's social security number on them. I don't really feel okay with posting them to the public , but rather on here instead where I know there are passionate and respectful collectors.

Is it okay to sell these on the forum here while covering the SSN or is there a method to avoid releasing their social security number by doing something else with these dogtags ?

Thank you

It's a common method here on the forum to use a photo editing app or software to blur the SSN. This forum can be publicly viewed so posting it here without concealing the SSN is equivalent to posting it on any other site

Not silly at all, I collect almost exclusively dog tags, and in doing so have come across countless dog tags with SSN posted on ebay, with the original owners likely being alive and well. Better to ask than to not ask!

Also, you can type the SSN into a google search and if the person is deceased, then they should appear in the Social Security Death Index. Once a person is deceased, their SSN is public and of no use to anyone anywhere. As long as the person is living, never post one. However, if they are deceased, there is nothing that that SSN is good for anymore.
