mds308 Posted March 9, 2017 Share #1 Posted March 9, 2017 Hi Again Friends, I found this at a big antique show in Richmond, Virginia back in 2003. It measures 28 inches wide and 12 inches tall. It's painted on a wood plank. It has holes down the center which I assume would be nailed to a wood stake. I'm assuming this was a colored (black serviceman's unit). It's hanging in my kitchen. Any ideas on age? I'm assuming WWII. It set me back a whole 10 dollars. The dealer had no idea what it meant. Thanks, Michael
patches Posted March 11, 2017 Share #2 Posted March 11, 2017 In WWII this unit was in Italy as a 5th Army Troop Unit, a component of the 249th Quartermaster Battalion, which from what I can tell was not a black unit.
mds308 Posted March 11, 2017 Author Share #3 Posted March 11, 2017 Hi patches, Thanks for the update. I figured it was a black unit being the mess related duties. There I go assuming again. The only thing I ever found on this unit was an image of a cook (Caucasian) standing next to a stove. Do you know or anybody else know if this unit existed after the war? Thank you again for your time and your help, Michael
