Thank you for your information. I know that it identifies the 17th TCS but the specimens I saw on internent are all slightly different.

Do you think this is a real WWII patch, or produced later?

Thanks in advance

First, very cool group. Thanks for sharing it.

Regarding your patch, that's a very tough call. Just from the photos, I would guess your patch is a post war made piece strictly based on the look of it. Maybe a reunion piece. Really tough to say for sure though. The patch Johnny posted looks like what you would expect of a WW2 era patch from a squadron based in Italy as these guys were.

Thank you for your comment. I also thought about making for a veteran's reunion but why is there an "AN" marking on the label if the manufacture is post-war? Would it not be factory manufacture in the USA following an official order during the war?

Good question. I missed the AN stamp. I wonder why the label is even there to begin with? Doesn't really seem to fit. Again, very tough to say.

I guess this grouping was sold on EBay last week,if I am not wrong the seller (turk1963) should be a member of this Forum

JDK: Yeah, that's odd, I was thinking of a piece of leather destined for another use (more official) and reused to make patches. According to Google A L Gebhardt was specialized in shoes, bags and belts. But, in times of war, the factories did not always produce the same thing as in times of peace.

Marentius Yes Grouping comes from ebay. Turk is a very serious seller no problem. My goal was simply to date the patch more precisely and not to question its originality.

Johnny Signor

Well first off the 17th TCS patch is an "Unofficial" one , used but not "approved" by the AAF , as to date of the TCS , it became a TCS in 1942 and until 1947 when it became a TCS(M) "Medium" , so I would place your patch/emblem in the area of 42-47 .........
