dunmore1774 Posted March 6, 2017 Share #1 Posted March 6, 2017 I found these grips attached to a lead piece described as a training pistol, it was shaped roughly like a 1911, painted bluish-grey. I believe they are WW1 wood 1911 colt grips. Looks like 15 rows of diamonds between the big diamonds. I dont think the screws are original WW1 era, but here they are as well. I was hoping to get thoughts from the members here. Thanks for any input.

dunmore1774 Posted March 6, 2017 Author Share #4 Posted March 6, 2017 I've heard different theories on the numbers of rows, Colts have 15, Springfield had 13, then some Colt's had 13 or 14, so I'm not really sure
Blacksmith Posted March 6, 2017 Share #5 Posted March 6, 2017 There was some variability in row counts on WWI 1911 stocks. Colt was 15 +/ -. Also, the way some collectors count them can result in different numbers. These are originals to me, and even look to have some oxidation 'ghosting' from being on a 1911 frame at one point. The bushing undercuts are present as well. Natural flattening of the grip texture in the middle from frequent handling, in opposition to sharper cuts at top and bottom. The fasteners may be original as well, as early ones had dome heads on them like this. Either way, bases on condition of the threads, I'd not try using them on a period 1911. Proper grip screws are plentiful, you have the hard pieces to find. I would put these at $200-$225.
Blacksmith Posted March 6, 2017 Share #6 Posted March 6, 2017 Springfields actually had 11. Remington-UMC were 13. Again, I would consider all of these +/- 1.
