mds308 Posted March 4, 2017 Share #1 Posted March 4, 2017 Not another story..... About 15 years ago I found this crazy looking airplane on a table at the local flea market. I know the dealer (Robbie) and he was asking around 45 dollars. I forgot what I paid but it was around 40 dollars. It measures 40 inches long and has a diamond shaped swept wing that measures 12 1/8 inch in span. It is of a modular construction. It's solid. I have a friend who works at NASA. He's an engineer and has been there since the early 1970s. He gave me his blessing that it's more than likely a wind tunnel model. How it left NASA? These concept aircraft remain on site or are destroyed. One day a friend came over and saw this model. She asked where I got it. I told her I bought it from Robbie at the flea market. She told me her ex-boyfriend found it in the trash and gave it to Robbie. Just in case you are wondering, the red chair is a lounge chair from the SS United States. More info in the next topic below. mds308 Posted March 4, 2017 Author Share #2 Posted March 4, 2017 Some more views. An image of the bottom too. Sorry for the dust. It's been stored in my back room. This area hasn't seen a dust removal since ?????
mds308 Posted March 4, 2017 Author Share #3 Posted March 4, 2017 Then about 3 years ago I found this NASA Research Center pamphlet. Inside is a father and son team working on a large jet at the facility. Not the same but similar. Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated. Thanks, Michael
ArtyScout Posted March 4, 2017 Share #4 Posted March 4, 2017 Probably back then this model was considered "Top Secret", then when it wasn't needed anymore, it gets chucked into the trash. Makes you wonder. Semper Fi. Manny
