Waltz41 Posted March 3, 2017 Share #1 Posted March 3, 2017 When I can and am able to find them, I love to have an original photo of an aircraft/nose art that I can build a model of. With all the decal makers out there (and the ability to make your own which I have not dabbled in yet), there's a lot of great examples out there if you can find the photos. Here's a few of mine. Waltz41 Posted March 3, 2017 Author Share #2 Posted March 3, 2017 Had a really hard time with the old Monogram kit, esp that darn canopy and getting it closed for inflight ops!

Waltz41 Posted March 3, 2017 Author Share #5 Posted March 3, 2017 Unknown 356th FG aircraft, but I liked the photo enough and decided on some nose art that I liked from a decal sheet for display

GITom1944 Posted March 3, 2017 Share #9 Posted March 3, 2017 Very nice work. Always cool to see inventiveness combined with historical research. What is your technique? How do you create the nose art? Tom Edit - I think I misunderstood... Just to clarify, are you using decals that are already available but locating original photos of the aircraft depicted by the decals? ...and I also need to add an "attaboy" for your 7th Air Force profile image and your P-47N. Good to see PTO fighters getting recognized.

Good to see PTO fighters getting recognized. Yeah, I'm using decal sheets that are already produced by various companies. I have not done any homemade decals yet! And thanks! My main area of focus on everything from collecting to research to model building is the 3 P-51 units of Iwo Jima (15th, 21st, 506th). Definitely feel like the pacific always gets overshadowed by the ETO and MTO when it comes to some things. Thanks for looking guys!
38Driver Posted March 4, 2017 Share #13 Posted March 4, 2017 When do you find the time to model build? It's been such a long time for me. I was a fanatic for a while, but there isn't enough time in the day anymore

Waltz41 Posted March 4, 2017 Author Share #15 Posted March 4, 2017 When do you find the time to model build? It's been such a long time for me. I was a fanatic for a while, but there isn't enough time in the day anymore As soon as the kids go to bed, it's off to my basement I go! And my boss is usually cool with it. She knows I need some 'me' time, it's how I decompress after a long day!
