Robswashashore Posted March 3, 2017 Share #1 Posted March 3, 2017 This Cold War icon was located 110 miles east of Cape Cod. It provided a crucial extra thirty minutes warning of approaching Soviet bombers. Had lots of fun finding photos and diagrams on line, and putting it together with ping pong balls, chicken wire, basswood, silicone sealant for the angry waves, and a leftover helicopter I was able to convert to a CH-3B. If it's military, if it's New England, I'm gonna try and built it... Thanks for looking.

GITom1944 Posted March 3, 2017 Share #6 Posted March 3, 2017 This is the first I've heard of these towers. Thanks for the education & nice-looking build. Tom

RustyCanteen Posted March 3, 2017 Share #8 Posted March 3, 2017 Great model, and nice choice for a scratchbuilt. I was always a little surprised no manufacturers released a kit for any of them; particularly in light of the tragic loss of Texas Tower 4. Lee Ragan Posted March 5, 2017 Share #16 Posted March 5, 2017 Neat model. I'm glad someone took the time to build this. Too bad that so many USAF troops were killed on these things.
Randy Posted March 7, 2017 Share #17 Posted March 7, 2017 The helicopters were flown from Otis AFB by the 4604th Support Squadron. Including a pic of their patch for those interested. Randy
