AB45 Posted March 1, 2017 Share #1 Posted March 1, 2017 Hey This morning, I found this US dog tag in a US arms dispute. This brand and also other things. After 1945 they were thrown into a ditch on the edge of a German airfield.Who can tell me what the dog tag? John C. Byrd 36078045 Thanks for replies. Greetings from Germany
Grant S. Posted March 1, 2017 Share #2 Posted March 1, 2017 "T41" means he was innoculated against tetanus in 1941. Not sure what the "42" means unless he was innoculated again in 1942. The "O" is his blood type and the "P" means he is a protestant. The ammo is .30 carbine and the coin is obviously a French 1 franc piece minted in 1945. The dog tag is surprisingly crude compared to all the ones I've seen. I assume it was made locally to replace a lost original? I'm sure someone else here can explain it. Nice finds by the way! AB45 Posted March 1, 2017 Author Share #4 Posted March 1, 2017 Where is John? For the history of our airfield, it is certainly interesting to know what has become of John. For more history http://www.grossostheim-im-krieg.de/

AB45 Posted March 1, 2017 Author Share #7 Posted March 1, 2017 Thanks for your help. It would be possible that he was from the 45 I.D.Or one of the following units of the 45 I.D. Which were on their way to southern Germany
Simon Lerenfort Posted March 1, 2017 Share #8 Posted March 1, 2017 You can see that from his British made dogtag, a replacement most likely as already mentioned, that John Byrd was drafted in the 6th Corps area - Chicago, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois. Nice find Best, Simon
