ocsfollowme Posted February 28, 2017 Share #1 Posted February 28, 2017 I picked up a USMC collection glued to a board and these were the nicer ones. The 3rd is an Aussie made one. Too bad the Raider has moth damage and I am afraid to remove the paper on the reverse of it.
warguy Posted February 28, 2017 Share #2 Posted February 28, 2017 Very nice patches. I once bought a large assortment that had been glued to a foam board. When pulled off, the paper remained on the back. Looked like they had been glued with a water soluble like Elmer's white glue. For what it is worth, I soaked the patched face up (they actually float) in a tepid bowl of tap water for about five minutes. The paper and glue residue sluffed right off. I placed them between paper towels to dry and when done, you would have never known they were ever glued to something. I wouldn't start with that gorgeous aviation patch, but may want to experiment with one of the others. I was very happy with the outcome-and I had some rare ones as well, including a green back white tongue 101st and an Italian made FSSF. Eric Queen Posted February 28, 2017 Share #3 Posted February 28, 2017 For some reason I have always liked the Raiders on wool. The Aircraft 1 though is the star of the show.
ocsfollowme Posted February 28, 2017 Author Share #4 Posted February 28, 2017 Kevin, have you tried it with wool patches? Or just FE cotton patches?
Patchcollector Posted February 28, 2017 Share #5 Posted February 28, 2017 I would be very careful soaking theatre made patches. On some of them the colors will bleed.Test first.

warguy Posted March 2, 2017 Share #8 Posted March 2, 2017 I cannot remember if there were any wool ones in the group, and do know the vast majority if not all were FE, but the other forum members offer good advice to test first. Again I didn't "soak" the patches either, but let the backs mainly get wet for a very short time. In most cases the fronts really weren't much more than damp. I can certainly understand reservations with this but simply thought I would share my success with the process. Kevin
