G-Company Posted February 26, 2017 Share #1 Posted February 26, 2017 Hello guys, does anyone know if the numbers on this receiver from a garand M1 rifle can be identified to what year it has been made? It should be ww2 era because of the place it has been found, and i would like to know more about it. The numbers on the part are: on the front: 2508127 on the left side: D 28291 32 on the back: 74 60 It has been dug up in the 90's in the DZ area of the 508th, along with canopy's and many other things you would expect to find there. yp221 Posted February 26, 2017 Share #2 Posted February 26, 2017 2508127 is the rifle's serial number. D 28291 32 is the drawing number. The D28291 is a part number on the engineer's drawing. The 32 refers to what revision series it's from. At least that's how I understand it. That serial number indicates that receiver was manufactured in January 1944 at Springfield Armory.
