Bluejacket Posted February 25, 2017 Share #1 Posted February 25, 2017 I'm doing a diorama for work consisting of a colonial-era blockhouse at 1"=4'. I'm looking for farmers and other country-types rather than soldiers to populate the scene. I've checked every hobby/modelling shop for miles around, and looked at untold websites, without success. Any ideas? I thought our European members might have some leads. All help will be appreciated, Bluejacket
GITom1944 Posted February 25, 2017 Share #2 Posted February 25, 2017 You may know this already but the term "O" scale is usually used with model railroading. It is generally said to be 1/43rd scale. http://theminiaturespage.com/ref/scales.html Quarter scale, and 1/48th scale are terms that are usually used in plastic aircraft/armor modelling. As sculpted and manufactured, figures can sometimes be a bit over or under-sized for their intended scale so you may be able to find figs in other scales that "look" about right for your project. 28mm-30mm scale wargaming figures might be close and you are more likely to find figures matching the time period you are depicting. This page has some info about scales including Civil War era civilians http://www.railroad-line.com/discussion/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=28881&whichpage=5 . This site shows some 1/48th gold miners by Pegasus that might work as well as some 30mm scale figures http://www.angelfire.com/biz/toysoldierhq/Odd30mm.html . Here's a link to the retailer http://pegasushobbies.net/catalog/p113/%237007-1/48-Calif.-Gold-Miners-/-Gold-Rush/product_info.html . Good luck. Sounds like an interesting project. Bluejacket Posted February 26, 2017 Author Share #3 Posted February 26, 2017 Tom, Thanks for the suggestions. I'm willing to settle for anything close to the scale. I know about the "O" connection to railroading. Around where I live there are no real "hobby" shops anymore, and my early searches and contacts have all been with the railroaders. I've appreciated their help, but they all use "O" gauge this and "O" gauge that, and I'm afraid I picked up that habit. I would have picked a different scale, but it wasn't my call. I can do the project without figures but they add a lot for the viewer. Hopefully I'll find something. Regards, Bluejacket
GITom1944 Posted February 28, 2017 Share #4 Posted February 28, 2017 Bluejacket - And then there's 40mm size, not sure if these would work. Very close to "O" guage...
