anton67 Posted February 24, 2017 Share #1 Posted February 24, 2017 I was at my local beer distributor today and he has an old medic helmet for sale. He said it was his father's who passed away. The father was a collector not a medic. Anyway I took the best photos I could while there of the crosses. A couple things concerned me about the pot. It is a front seam swivel bail with a 200 (not sure exact) range number. Also had sewn on straps with black buckles. Anyway, thoughts would be appreciated. stealthytyler Posted February 24, 2017 Share #8 Posted February 24, 2017 Consistent paint damage to the entire helmet or just the crosses?
anton67 Posted February 24, 2017 Author Share #9 Posted February 24, 2017 I'm trying to figure out whether not it's a legit medic lid so any help you could provide would be appreciated
stealthytyler Posted February 24, 2017 Share #10 Posted February 24, 2017 Can you post more photos of the regular OD paint around the medic crosses? I would be looking for consistent paint chips across the whole helmet. Not just the crosses
stealthytyler Posted February 24, 2017 Share #11 Posted February 24, 2017 Here is my helmet with similar paint chips. Hope this can be a helpful comparison.
anton67 Posted February 24, 2017 Author Share #12 Posted February 24, 2017 Well it is up on eBay http://m.ebay.com/itm/Original-WW2-WWii-US-U-S-Medic-Medics-1942-Helmet-McCord-M1-/322432947969?nav=WATCHING_ACTIVE When I went to the beer distributor I spoke to a woman. She told me it was her brothers helmet and he was selling it. She didn't know how much he wanted for it. When I called him he told me it was up on eBay

anton67 Posted February 25, 2017 Author Share #16 Posted February 25, 2017 Thank you all for your input. Would you mind enlightening me about what tells you it is not a good lid. I am sure it would help me in the future and others who are not as good with paint as you guys. My personal concerns were that the chinstraps looked too new. Also it is a FS SB with a low serial number. The liner is KW era. I wasnt sure about the paint though.

king802 Posted February 25, 2017 Share #23 Posted February 25, 2017 Medic helmets are a minefield. Rich
anton67 Posted February 25, 2017 Author Share #24 Posted February 25, 2017 Thanks for adding info to the post. Yes they are a minefield. I think what you are seeing as marks running through are actually brush strokes (see photo 1 left corner of cross- white area). Although there is scratching. I wish I would have taken a better camera but I guess you guys can see it better in the eBay auction. I took these pics in the dark with my crappy iPhone.
