Cololab Posted February 21, 2017 Share #1 Posted February 21, 2017 Somehow I have misplaced whatever reference material I had concerning M1 helmet heat lots / dates of production. This is a helmet that I presume to be late WW2, but I defer to the expertiise of those on the forum. The helmet is an exterior repaint, but otherwise seemed to me to be original. As stated in the topic line, the heat lot is 1235E.
nreed_94 Posted February 21, 2017 Share #2 Posted February 21, 2017 Looks nice to me. The lot number is appropriate for the M1C's release. Yours looks to be a rear seam from the photos, so I would most likely place it around January-spring of 1945. Lot codes are a bit tricky. The best reference I have simply states that lot codes were in the 700s by 1943 (not very helpful). In general though, the higher the number, the later the war. Between the high numbered code and seam, it's safe to say it was made sometime in early-mid 1945
Cololab Posted February 21, 2017 Author Share #3 Posted February 21, 2017 Thanks for the reply. It is indeed a rear seam.
