digi-shots Posted February 19, 2017 Share #1 Posted February 19, 2017 I'm still researching this new grouping but I thought I'd share some pics in the meantime. This Navy veteran's sea duty spans almost 20 years - beginning in 1964 aboard the aircraft carrier USS Kearsarge and ending on the guided missile cruiser USS Mississippi in 1983. As a Quarter Master 2, he spent 1968 and 1969 in Vietnam making patrols aboard a PCF craft assigned to Coastal Division 13 at Cat Lo. He was injured and received a Purple Heart as a result of a mine explosion while on patrol. From 1972 to 1976, he was with COSRIVRON 2 making patrols aboard a PTF craft (Patrol Torpedo Fast). Among the items pictured here is his US Navy MK2 knife made by Camillus... it's a bit a "salty" and is missing the rear butt end... probably used it as a hammer! Both berets show some wear and usage. The camo one is a three piece rip stock ERDL pattern and the black one is wool with a maker's label on the inside - MODESTO, Vung Tau. Thanks for looking! firefighter Posted February 20, 2017 Share #8 Posted February 20, 2017 Amazing grouping. The Craft Master badge is a first for me.The COSRIVRON rocker is nice, those seem to be very hard to find. The hand sewn RIV RON patch is sweet.
digi-shots Posted February 20, 2017 Author Share #9 Posted February 20, 2017 Thanks for all the kind words! It is a nice grouping and the "Craftmaster" badge is a first for me too.... I'd never heard of one before. It looks in-country made and is of a fairly heavy aluminum material with two prongs on the back for clutches. I'd never heard of one before. It looks in-country made and is of a fairly heavy aluminum material with two prongs on the back for clutches. Definitely a theater made badge. I just noticed the tag in the black beret, nit one I am familiar with. That is very cool.
digi-shots Posted February 20, 2017 Author Share #11 Posted February 20, 2017 The black beret has a slight wear spot on top and shows signs of having some type of badge or pin attached to the "flash" area (the prongs on the Craftmaster badge do not line up with the holes on the inside reinforced flash area). Looks like some type of badge that had a horizontal pin (??). The Navy base at Cat Lo is about 15 miles from the village of Vung Tau. I'm guessing the black beret was most likely worn while stationed there with the Swift Boats of Coastal Division 13.
