268th C.A. Posted February 19, 2017 Share #2 Posted February 19, 2017 I dont think I would condemn it as a fake. It looks like its done on a machine with lower case capabilities. Does anyone know if this is possible on a military dog tag machine ? The tag to the right also looks just a bit smaller. Maybe an optical elusion. Its a notched tag ? The more I look the more I get confused. Where are the dog tag experts...
Hobza Posted February 19, 2017 Author Share #3 Posted February 19, 2017 Yes especially those on the right are strange to me..
bellasilva Posted February 19, 2017 Share #4 Posted February 19, 2017 Fret not! They're right as rain. While the handheld addressograph machine existed, so did a much larger version (the designation escapes me now). This version I believe was the one capable of lower case font. Why this was done, I am not sure, but your tags are nice late 50s Air Force tags. Edit- I did just notice that both pairs of tags to the same man have different service numbers, with the same tetanus dates. That is a head scratcher for sure but crazier things have happened. Believe me, late 50s Air Force tags are not in high demand and therefore would not be a sought after reproduction item.
