Tonomachi Posted February 16, 2017 Share #1 Posted February 16, 2017 I purchased this grouping last weekend at the flea market which came out of a storage locker in San Carlos, California some 4 to 6 months ago. The seller told me that the former owner apparently passed away and was an engineer in civilian life and a USMC pilot during the Vietnam War. The seller only had a last name of Roth so assuming he was buried in Northern California I have been surfing the Internet however no luck and I was surprised to find that there are a lot of military folks that share this same last name. tomcatter Posted February 18, 2017 Share #4 Posted February 18, 2017 This "9M" shield should be from late 1950's to early 1960's. A nice pair of wings!
Tonomachi Posted April 16, 2017 Author Share #5 Posted April 16, 2017 I wonder what the odds are that two months later I stumble across the rest of this grouping for sale from the same group of flea market sellers that purchase and sell stuff out of abandoned storage lockers. Initially I wasn't aware that I was buying the rest of the grouping even though the name Roth did sound familiar. It wasn't until I was driving home and thinking about the name and that I remembered buying a pair of USMC pilot wings from these same folks and wondered if it was the same person. I confirmed it once I got home. The EGAs and captain bars are sterling marked. The 24 numeral on the air medal ribbon matches the information on the certificate.
