kanemono Posted February 14, 2017 Share #1 Posted February 14, 2017 This is an interesting piece brought back by Chief Gilbert Chester Mayer who served with Mobile Explosive Investigative Unit #4. MEIU#4 was responsible for the battlefield disposal of friendly and enemy ordnance. Also, they were responsible for the collection and dis-assembly and shipment of enemy ordnance for further analysis. They were qualified as Mine Recovery Personnel/Second Class Divers. MEIU#4 participated in Anquar, Peleliu, Leyte, Samar, Ulithi Atoll, Eniwetok, Kwajelein, Tinian, Saipan, Palau, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and Mainland Japan. This is a Japanese tobacco pouch and pipe with a concealed knife. This is not an opium pipe. Japanese tobacco pipe bowls were very small because tobacco was very expensive. Here also is the cigarette case that belonged to Mayer. Dick
