mslurvey Posted February 14, 2017 Share #1 Posted February 14, 2017 I had the pleasure to meet two Purple Heart recipients during the past week and a half. 1. 96 year old WWII ball gunner B-17 who was wounded in the leg on the return leg from a mission over Germany on 05AUG1944. The ironic thing he was filling in on another ship on this mission and his regular crew and ship was shot down with most of the crew taken POW. He belonged to the 100th BG 350th bomb wing. He also has several Air Medals to his credit. 2. Had a Marine recruiter come into the school today and the first thing I noticed his Purple Heart ribbon and after we started to talk I noticed he also had a Navy Achievement Medal ribbon with a (V) Valor device attached. We thanked each other for service to our country and then I turned to my student workers and told them that is a true American Hero. Mason
