rrobertscv Posted February 13, 2017 Share #1 Posted February 13, 2017 While visiting with my uncle he told me he had a coffee can full of stuff if I wanted it. He dug all of this in the Vicksburg area in the early 1980's. Can someone shed some light on the two bullets in the separate photo?

268th C.A. Posted February 13, 2017 Share #4 Posted February 13, 2017 The one on the left is a fennel for a cap box. The one on the right looks like a Confederate ball that was removed from the musket with a worm tool....I am not an expert. But thats what it appears to be...The top piece is a bayonet scabbard tip. top is a ball in pulled from the musket Cartridge box Brest plate cap box fennel
rrobertscv Posted February 13, 2017 Author Share #5 Posted February 13, 2017 The piece you said is a fennel for a cap box is solid lead like a bullet if that makes a difference.
shellman825 Posted February 13, 2017 Share #6 Posted February 13, 2017 Is the fennel on the left brass or lead, most of time lead ones are confederate and brass is union I dug about 20 of the lead ones in confederate lines at Bentonville NC over the last 20 years
268th C.A. Posted February 13, 2017 Share #7 Posted February 13, 2017 All the Minne balls look dropped. The bottom ones look fired and impacted. Nice Brest plate too, still has the wire loops on the rear....
shellman825 Posted February 13, 2017 Share #8 Posted February 13, 2017 The bullet on the left looks like a CS Enfield bullet that was ramed hard and fired the base with little hole is just a cast fraud
