Championhilz Posted February 12, 2017 Share #1 Posted February 12, 2017 I have been collecting memorabilia of the U.S.S. Seattle (CA-11) for many years, as my grandfather served on the ship during World War I. Recently I spotted a copy of the ship's history "USS Seattle During the War" on Ebay. The book was written by the crew and published in 1919. It's a great book, and gives a very detailed history of the ship during World War 1. I was going to pass on bidding, however, as I already have a copy of the book in better condition than the one that was on Ebay. Fortunately I read the complete description and found that that this copy of the book had something mine didn't - the autograph of John R.Y. Blakely, who was captain of the Seattle during World War I. Blakely had quite a career and ended his service as a Rear Admiral - his medals are up for sale at Flying Tiger Antiques - if anyone wants to see them, they can be found here: http://www.flyingtigerantiques.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=fta&Product_Code=usnm00000jbm&Category_Code=06USN

Championhilz Posted February 12, 2017 Author Share #3 Posted February 12, 2017 I forgot to mention the best part - no one else bid on the book, so I picked it up for the opening price of 14.00.
