Hello All,

The Liberty Foundation will begin our 2017 Salute to Veterans tour in March.

This year will mark a change in aircraft as we will now be touring the B-17 "Madras Maiden" formerly known as "Chuckie".

It is painted up in the markings of the 381st Bomb Group.
This B-17, built in 1944, has never toured or been available to the public for flight experiences.

We look forward to bringing this aircraft to as many cities as possible in 2017.

Take a flight in our Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress named the Madras Maiden!

I am posting the link below to the organization's website so you can follow the tour's progress-

Hope to see you on the road!

John

No one has ever regretted spending the money for a flight that I know of.

It has always been a wonderful experience for all.

Would be great to see you out at the airplane BROBS and give you a tour!

Watch the schedule, in updates every so often.

John

John,
I'll definitely keep my eyes peeled!

I know there was a big response here and I believe all the spots were already taken when I asked.

Thanks and here's to hoping,
-Brian

Beautiful paint job. A good friend of mine was a ball turret gunner in the 535th Bomb Squadron, 381st Bomb Group and flew 28 missions over Europe. One of my good luck charms is a pin with the "Triumphant We Fly" insignia that he gave me. Keep 'em flying!

Hi John:

Back in 1987 or 1988 Doc Hospers had Chuckie at the EAA bash in Oshkosh.  He was giving rides to the public at  $50 each, taking 6 or 8 people up on each flight.  Needless to say....I gladly paid for a flight.  I still have the nice 35mm photos I took on that flight.

The Madras Maiden was in Buffalo this past weekend.  I took a ride on it and it was incredible.  We flew from Buffalo to Niagara Falls and back.

The mist in the background is Niagara Falls.

I climbed around inside a B-17 a few years ago, but never flew in one. The thing that amazed me was how darned compact things are inside. My only reference was long ago seen episodes of 12:00 High, where things looked a bit roomier. My already great admiration for the crews went up even higher. Best wishes for the tour!

It was something you would never forget.   I have flown over Niagara Falls a few times but not many can say they did it in a B-17.

Really glad you enjoyed your flight, it is always a memorable experience.

It looks like John Hess is at the controls, an excellent pilot and great guy.

Thanks for posting all the pics and comments.

I called late on Saturday and was lucky to get on the Sunday noon flight as there was only one spot left.

Here is one position on the plane that most people would not fit.

Being this close to the engines and listening to there roar was also a treat.  A sound like none other.

I was able to see Madras Maiden yesterday. There is nothing like seeing these old WWII airplanes.  They are just beautiful!

Hello, just wanted to say thanks to everyone that came out to fly on or tour Madras Maiden this season.
The tour was highly successful and it is all due to the support of people like you, that have a passion for warbirds and WWII history.
The airplane is in winter maintenance now and will be back in the spring to begin another tour.
Hope to see you next year!

Hello Backtheattack!

Great to hear from you in Bavaria!

I lived in Munich as a kid...recognize the logo on my hoodie?  :-)
