Untold numbers of these were brought back from the Pacific but seldom do you know the identity of the serviceman who souvenired it. On this one however a sailor , F.J. Lawrence, decided to engrave the scabbard to preserve for posterity his name and that of his ship , cities he visited in Japan and the date.
