Bearmon Posted February 3, 2017 Share #1 Posted February 3, 2017 This patch came with a gold star (for a medal/ribbon) in lieu of a 7th air Medal to a sailor in FaireConRon 1 in Vietnam. the award is for the time period between July 4th and September 20th 1966. The patch is 2.8 inches in diameter and Japanese made. Trying to figure out the meaning. It could be some type of Electronic" signal being represented but don't know for sure. Obviously the background graphic is a bat, the symbol found on the FaireConRon squadron patches. As always thanks in advance for any ideas or suggestions. Salvage Sailor Posted February 4, 2017 Share #3 Posted February 4, 2017 I'd say your instincts are right and it is a VQ-1 black bat patch. The arrowheads (points, spears, french toast....) could be anything but I'd say EW related VQ-1 History - scroll down, good reading http://www.vpnavy.org/vq1_1950.html
