Looks like a repair was made near four fingers using a white cheesecloth. It is done very professionally. Strange, why go to that trouble to fix a .25 cent patch?

That or it was just missing a section of thread. Interesting, I have not seen a lot of WWII shoulder patches that have been repaired like this. However, It is very common to see 1960's to 1970's squadron patches repaired like this, where they are missing some thread due to the spool or bobbin running out of thread. Semper Fi - Jeff

BILL THE PATCH

There might have been more than one patch damaged in this particular batch, I can't see repairing just one, 100 yes, and even more. Maybe the machine screwed up. I bet there's more out there, but out of thousands of patch's being made during the war probably no one ever found another like it.
