New USMC Squadron Helmet

I've been wanting to run across one from this squadron for some time and finally found one. Used by a RIO with VMFA-232 in the 80's who also attended Topgun and the helmet came from him directly. The F-4 Phantom he flew at the time of Topgun is at the Smithsonian Udvar-Hazy facility ( I think I spelled that right) and also showm below. It has the rubber "bumpers" to help prevent scratching canopies as well as the visor knob covered for the same reason and velcro for cammo cover.

Great looking helmet!! I see it has Velcro for a helmet cover. Did you happen to acquire a cover from this Aviator?

Chris

No, unfortunately he no longer had the cover.

Sharp helmet! I remember viewing the auction. flighthelmet.com or grambo-rf.com may have the woodland camouflage cover for the helmet. Looks like you will also need an MBU-14/P (all green?) oxygen mask with a Robertshaw Type 1 mini-regulator and a lower high pressure oxygen hose with a locking connector made by REDAR. Gray skull cap also. The PRK-37/P shell based helmet would be known as a HGU-33/P. Hope this helps.

Thanks, I figured it would be the green mbu-14 but wasn't sure about the regulator. I'll have to keep an eye out for them.

Damn, that is one sharp-looking helmet, especially considering its age! As a former Red Devil myself, I greatly approve of this helmet!

thanks Ski, I've always thought they had one of the best looking squadron art on their helmets and aircraft of any Marine squadrons. He certainly took good care of it. All I really need to do is put some new foam in the earcups to replace the old rotted/melted gunk.
