Silvio Posted January 20, 2017 Share #1 Posted January 20, 2017 Hi all, Here is my first USAAF officers uniform and visor made by KNOX It has some work because the 9th airforce patch and overseas bars are removed but they where hidden in a pocket. The arial gunner wing is 2 inch and has been on the tunic for a while. Visor is in very good condition and has initials and a serial number Thank you for watching

Silvio Posted January 21, 2017 Author Share #6 Posted January 21, 2017 Thank you, You mean the serial number in the visor or the number in the jacket Good to hear the 2 inch wing is no problem.

doinworkinvans Posted January 21, 2017 Share #8 Posted January 21, 2017 For some reason I missed that they were aerial gunner wings....it is a bit strange to see gunner wings on officer uniform. Not impossible, just not common.
Silvio Posted January 21, 2017 Author Share #9 Posted January 21, 2017 Thank you very much for ID the visor There is a 8 digit number in the jacket but i have to check it in daylight it looks like 22415690 The Gunner wing is the only one ever attached to this uniform as there are no other pinholes, but who knows. Not impossible, just not common. He was an enlisted man previously (has a Good Conduct Ribbon). May have qualified as an Aerial Gunner prior to getting a commission. carbinephalen Posted January 21, 2017 Share #11 Posted January 21, 2017 That ribbon bar looks brand spanking new in the 2nd photo. Could we get a close up shot of it?
BROBS Posted January 21, 2017 Share #12 Posted January 21, 2017 Probably a put together set IMO. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Silvio Posted January 21, 2017 Author Share #13 Posted January 21, 2017 Probably a put together set IMO. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Visor is not belonging to the same person as the tunic but i never stated that Yes maybe they put the ribbonbar and wing postwar on this tunic but the rest of this uniform is genuine IMO
BROBS Posted January 21, 2017 Share #14 Posted January 21, 2017 What I mean is: my guess is that this officer was not a pilot, but in administration of some type etc. The wing and ribbon bar were most likely put on to make it more attractive to collectors. This is why you only see one set of holes for wings IMO. What is the attachment type of the ribbon bar? -Brian
Silvio Posted January 21, 2017 Author Share #15 Posted January 21, 2017 That is possible its spiced up in the past,me personal would have put a 3 inch wing on it.besides that would he not earned more medals then only this 3. Ribbon bar is clutch back type and the uniform clothing has cleary traces there was a ribbon bar by colour difference. So it could be switched with higher awards Thank you

MattS Posted January 28, 2017 Share #18 Posted January 28, 2017 That Knox visor is killer, single-ply visor and it looks like a Fox eagle too! As far as the jacket, I would expect to see theater ribbons (American and European) on there.
Kadet Posted January 28, 2017 Share #19 Posted January 28, 2017 Are the two OL son the DFC attached? Is so, that is post war...and I would guess the rest of he ribbon bar is too.
