Show & Tell! Have happily just acquired this vintage A-2. It's a Size 42 Perry Sportswear in about 99% original condition! The best condition war-time issued and worn A-2 that I personally have ever seen.

The owner was a pilot in 1944-45 down in the South Pacific. The jacket is adorned with Australian-made insignia of the 319th Bomb Squadron - "Asterperious" on the right and the "Jolly Roger" on the left. Above that are the pilot's name tag and above that, sewn-on embroidered pilot wings. On the left shoulder is sewn an Aussie-made 5th AF patch. The cuffs and waistband are original and show no excessive wear or damage. The leather on the jacket is perfect. The jacket had sewn-on rank insignia on the shoulders and they have been removed.

The group also includes the pilot's summer tunic and summer true 'crusher'. Also a chocolate shirt with a Sydney, Australia tailor's label

Thanks for the comments. When I first saw it was hard to believe it was a vintage WWII jacket-----but it is! I'm supposing that being in the Pacific after he got the jacket patched he just didn't have a need to wear it. Came home and put it away. He was from Dallas so I assume it was not put up in the attic! Bob

Beautiful jacket! I had an uncle who was a Navigator in the 321st Sqd., 90th BG that was KIA in Jan. 1945. That makes 90th BG items a special interest of mine.

You guys would be amazed at how many collectors think the 90th BG patches are for the Navy Fighter Sqd. VF-84. They never notice the big difference in the two designs which are a different skull and the Bomb Group design has crossed bombs while the fighter Sqd. has crosses bones. I have seen this mis-identification in militaria shops and the book "Official and Unofficial US Navy Air Patches 1920's to Today" , by Nelson and Parsons.

Thanks for showing this great jacket!

Jolly Rogers patches are cool, I like how each of the Squadron not only has a "Squadron" emblem, they also had the "Jolly Rogers" patch in "specific" unit colors to note each Squadron .......

319th Blue,320th Red,321st Green and the 400th Black .....

The ob-long Asterperious patch on felt is a 1970's repo piece made for a reunion. I have one exactly like it that I got from a fellow collector in California.

I wish it was original, but no matter, it's still a neat patch.

The round one with a light blue disc and different looking wording I suspect is just a manufacturers variation. This is the one I was refering to in my earlier post as having been identified in that book on Navy patches as a Navy VF-84 squadron patch.
